A. General information
After pronounced “siaga” status on 21 October at 18.00WIB, the activity of Merapi Mountain, which lays in Central Java and Daerah istimewa Yogyakarta, kept improving. In daily news “Kedaulatan Rakyat” on Sunday October 24, it was mentioned that during Friday and Saturday (22-23/10) the top of Merapi started to bubled about 16-20 centimeter, it increased twice, compared with last Thursday (21/10). The buble direction is to the South.
This condition showed that the position of magma almost reach the top. “but, when Merapi Mountain errupted is not yet known” said Surono, the head of Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi, Badan Geologi Kementrian ESDM. “to decide the status to “awas”, we have to consider all the parameters” he added. The residents were asked not to be panic and always aware and alert to face the posibbility of Merapi erruption in unpredictable time.
B. Response and Coordination
Regarding on the ’siaga’ situation, this Sunday morning (24/10), the local government of Dukun District had instructed all the residents of Disaster Risk Zone Kawasan Rawan Bencana (KRB) of Merapi Mountain to gather in their own region and get some information of socialisation disaster risk response. Started Monday evening (25/10), the night watch to monitor Merapi condition is activated in every sub village.
The sub district also prepared temporary shelter in Ngrajek and Japunan sub village, Sumber village, Dukun sub district. The communication post has installed in Talun and repeater for two ways communication has been activated.
KARINAKAS’ contact person in Tangkil sub village, Ngargomulyo village, Dukun sun district, Magelang district has reported that on Sunday, October 24 at 22.00WIB, thundering sound has heard clearly from Merapi Mountain. The residents of Tangkil sub village have stand by in front of their houses and roads.
The activities of Sumber Parish DRR-ER considering this condition are observing Merapi activities every day. In the ‘siaga’ status, we will release sitrep every week, whenever the status is increased into ‘awas’, we will release sitrep every day. Coordination meeting between parish priest, parish board, DRR-ER Sumber Parish team and KARINAKAS to decide activites during ‘siaga’ status and ‘awas’ status will be held on Monday 25 October 2010, 15.00 WIB in Sumber Parish.
