00.0– 05.59

From Ketep observation post, the sky was bright from night till dawn. 800 m high-white fog came from Merapi’s crater. It moved toward southwest, west, and northwest. From Manisrenggo village, it was reported that white fog was appeared from the crater at 05.40 am. It was 100 m high above.

06.00 – 12.00

Sky was bright. 1000 m high smoke came from the crater at 08.00 pm. Some parts of Yogyakarta City in the north side are suffered by ash fall for a while. There was 5,8 Richter tectonic earthquake at 11.14 pm, located in Banda Sea, 375 km southeast Ambon, 151,2 km depth. So far, it doesn’t interfere volcanic activities of Merapi.

12.00 – 17.59

Lava on Kuning River has reached and fullfiled the bridge of Sidorejo, Sidorejo sub village, Hargobinangun. It is located in 9.5 km from the peak. In Gendol River, lava and volcanic material has filled the dam on Morangan sub village, Sindumartani that is 16,5 km from the peak. Ash fall was occurred in Salam and Muntilan until 16.00 pm.

Lava sedimentation has been observed and found in every river, which has upstream in the peak of Merapi. The sedimentation in Boyong River has reached Kardangan sub village, Purwobinangun, Sleman (16 km from the peak). It also happened in Gendol River (16,5 km from the peak), and Kuning River (9,5 km from the peak)

Hot volcanic cloud struck for three minutes at 12.54. It reached 4 km below toward Gendol River and Talang River. The second hot volcanic cloud came at 17.38. At 19.21 pm, it was reported that there was lava flood in Gendol River.

Due to the high volcanic activity of Merapi volcano and the status is still set at the level of caution, government is recommended as follows:

  1. It shall be conducted an investigation of volcanic ash that could potentially interfere with flight route to and from the Adisucipto. International Airport, Yogyakarta. And, Yogyakarta Airport has already closed until November 15th.
  2. Any activities in disaster prone areas III are not allowed, particularly for those who stay around the river (the threat of danger hot clouds and lava flood) that tipped in Merapi Southeast, South, Southwest, West and Northwest sectors (Woro river, Gendol river, Kuning river, Boyong river, Bedog river, Krasak river, Bebeng river, Sat river, Lamat river, Senowo river, Trising river, and Apu river).
  3. Immediately evacuate IDPs to safer places place outside a radius of 20 km from the peak of Merapi Volcano.

Ash rain is still happening in some areas, especially Salam and Muntilan since Merapi Eruption occurred almost every morning and the wind blown toward west or southwest.

The eruption is no longer as explosive as eruption on November 5th. But, Merapi still erupts in a low until moderate level of eruption. Some IDPs who live in the 15 km – 20 km safe zone sometimes come back to their houses and doing some activities. Even, some of them are decided to stay on their home just to secure their houses or villages.

B. Coodination

  • Our distribution system through Parishes has already operated. Even though some parishes have to get used to with the administration issues. We believe that everything will run well soon.
  • Medical team has already implemented their action plan. Their target beneficiaries are those who stay in the civilian houses or small posts that not conducted by the government. Next week, Trijaya FM, a radio network, will cooperate with KARINAKAS to conduct greater medical support for more IDPs.
  • KARINAKAS consider solving the livestock’s problem. Livestock is the biggest reason why IDPs back to their home even the situation still unsafe. Whether KARINAKAS facilitates farmer from the affected area to maintain their livestock to other farmer in KARINAKAS’ Development Program areas, or buy the livestock and borrow it to other farmer in safer area, the idea is really urgent to execute. We hope that we can work with other organizations to realize that.
