 A. General

If you want to clearly understand of the places mentioned below, please download the picture of safe zone of Merapi Eruption from this link http://www.4shared.com/file/KQiVsEAE/Archive.html

On Friday, November 12th, Merapi Eruption happened since 17.38 until 23.00 pm.

Saturday, November 13th,

00.0– 05.59 a.m

Observer from Ketep reported that the weather was clear since night to dawn. It was reported also that 1200m high smoke came from the crater to south and southwest.

06.00 – 11.59 a.m

Lava could be seen carrying sedimentation material without stones or even wood or trees in Pogung Bridge. The stream was 2 m high. In Lempungsari sub-village, Plemburan, people did self-evacuation (22 households). In Sayidan Bridge, the stream was 0,5 m high.

12.00 – 17.59 p.m

Rain was reported with its intensity of 28,5 mm/ hour at noon. Low intensity ash fall happened in Manisrenggo village at 15.30 pm. Tectonic earthquake happened at 14.52 for 88 seconds.

Due to the high volcanic activity of Merapi volcano and the status is still set at the level of caution, government is recommended as follows:

  1. It shall be conducted an investigation of volcanic ash that could potentially interfere with flight route to and from the Adisucipto. International Airport, Yogyakarta. And, Yogyakarta Airport has already closed until November 15th.
  2. Any activities in disaster prone areas III are not allowed, particularly for those who stay around the river (the threat of danger hot clouds and lava flood) that tipped in Merapi Southeast, South, Southwest, West and Northwest sectors (Woro river, Gendol river, Kuning river, Boyong river, Bedog river, Krasak river, Bebeng river, Sat river, Lamat river, Senowo river, Trising river, and Apu river).
  3. Immediately evacuate IDPs to safer places place outside a radius of 20 km from the peak of Merapi Volcano.

Ash rain is still happening in some areas. It also happened in Yogyakarta City at 4 pm and low intensity ash fall also happened at night.

Even Merapi is not safe yet, many IDPs has came back to their home and doing some activities such as cleaning their home and environment, taking care their livestock, and preparing everything. They do not disturb by the frequently low intensity eruption of Merapi. Even government has closed the road to the villages near the peak; some of IDPs always find ways to go to their villages.

B. Coordination

  • Christianization issue has become new challenge. In Ganjuran Parish, some fundamentalists have repelled IDPs that stayed in the parish compound. Even though there is no intention to do Christianization, they still think IDPs will be a Christian if they accept relief item from the Church. Now, those IDPs are staying in the Major official house. Since then, some parishes work more carefully and try to work in collaboration with other institution. Klepu Parish (40 km from the peak of Merapi) has already work with Nadhlatul Ulama, a religious (Moslem) civil organization, to distribute relief item.
  • Some parishes also distribute relief items for those who are not evacuated but also suffered from the eruption, especially those who are farmer. Ash fall has destroyed the agriculture also. In some areas, those farmers need relief item to continue their live and support IDPs that stay on their villages.
  • Monitoring activity has already conducted. Visiting some parish, assessment team already got some data that you can found on the last pages of this sitrep #15.
